This vibrant piece captures Claire’s experiences in the beachside village of Pangani, Tanzania, along the Indian Ocean. While staying in bamboo huts, her nights were filled with the soothing, powerful roar of the waves just feet away. The sunsets were unforgettable, and the nearly untouched beach stretched on endlessly, offering a sense of tranquility and vastness.
Moved by the beauty and fragility of this environment, she took the opportunity to perform a beach cleanup. Armed with a large bag, Claire gathered discarded plastics—worn-out ropes, fishing lines, and countless flip-flops that had drifted ashore. It felt meaningful to contribute, even in a small way, to the well-being of this stunning coastal area.
Her time in Pangani was also spent exploring the marine life. A snorkeling excursion revealed an underwater world teeming with vibrant fish, which inspired the lively colors and flowing lines in this painting. "In Pangani" reflects the awe Claire felt in nature's presence and the joy of giving back to the environment.
